Used Laptops

If you have read any of my websites like this one on any of the websites that I have listed in my Links directory you will find that I have a very low tolerance for ignorant people.  Basically I am talking about when a consumer purchases a laptop.  They are only purchasing based on the advertising they see on TV or mailers etc.  They have no concept of quality and reliability.  That is why Dell has become the laptop of choice.  Never mind that it is unreliable and of very low quality.  Let us not forget that the tech support line leads to a group of techs that can hardly speak English and do not live in the USA.

If you want a quality used laptop forget everything that you know about the ideas you have about laptops.  Manufacturers quality goes up and down every year.  Not all makes are the same year after year.  For example take the Toshiba laptops.  Their quality had dropped year after year consistently.  They have successfully lowered their standards to the point that the laptop barely can be used without problems for a year.  I think this is based on the competition in the retail market where the consumer thinks that cheaper prices are better.   When in fact they should want to pay more for their laptop and demand higher performance.  In new laptops, you get what you pay for.

So I am always preaching that if you purchase a new laptop do not spend less than $1,000.  Now I know that no one listens at first because they are just being a stupid consumer that is uneducated in the computer industry.  However I think if we revisited the situation in 6 to 12 months you would find that they wish they had bought the better machine.

Hence, the reason to consider used laptops.  They are tried and tested before you purchase them.  You can easily find parts at a much more reasonable cost that for new laptops.  For example if you crack your LCD on a new laptop the cost can exceed the value of the laptop to replace it.  Where as you can find used LCDs for the older used laptops at under $100.

Now if you are made of money definitely purchase a new laptop and please spend alot for the quality you deserve.  However if you are looking for a bargain laptop do not forget that just because the price is low does not make it a bargain laptop.  It may be a money pit.
